Blog from iPhone?

Tomorrow we are going to Arizona to see Etta James in concert. Since we need to revive the blog why not try to blog from the iPhone? So this is a test.

...and then there was Nashville

Much changed in September. The trailer on Jetsunma property was removed. I moved into a new apartment. And the studio moved into my spare room. This was a major disruption. But despite the hurtles Tara and I were able to continue to draft new material, in the hopes that it could one day be used.

Then in December word came to us that this group was interested in Jetsunma. One of the people involved with the label is associated with KPC.

Jetsunma asked Tara and I to prepare new material and to record a demo for Tara.

We completed the demo in early February. Tara now has five songs that show her range as a singer. Look for them on her myspace.

At BSE's request we went to Nashville for 10 days. Here, Doc and Ani Dolma are getting ready to drive Jetsunma in her RV.

We were working with Sandra Furton, who founded BSE, seen here with Jetsunma in Nashville. She was renting the house we stayed in and the studio where the recording took place.

Here we are in the control room

And this is the live room.

Soon after arriving in Nashville we finished a song we composed and tracked in 2007; "The Promise," it set the stage for the pieces that were written afterward. Finishing this song gave Jetsunma the energy to write lyrics and craft 12 other songs from the material Tara and I recorded over the fall.

Jetsunma writing lyrics for a song.

Now, what really made this trip productive and extra special was working with Wayne "Tex" Gabriel on guitar and Jimmy Mac on the bass.

Tex and Jimmy working out their parts for a song. We tracked Tex and Jimmy on "The Promise" and a number of new songs. Specifically, on "The Promise," it was their performances that gave an old song new life.

And their presence inspired BBV in new and invigorating ways.

I'm not going to belabor this, but Tex worked with John Lennon and Jimmy was with Sly and the Family Stone. So, needless to say, they are talented and it was absolutely amazing to work with them.

Here is a photo of Tex with John Lennon. For Tara and I, huge Beatles fans, this picture is awe inspiring.

Jetsunma was herself touched by the amazing talent and wondrous personalties of Tex and Jimmy. Between them you could sense the depth of an old spiritual friendship, a kinship in both music and the beyond. The chemistry was palpable, infectious and delicious!

Indeed, the entire group parted knowing that something special was created, not just the music, but the friendships. Now with 13 songs composed, rough vocals tracked and basic elements in place we have a lot of work cut out for us. As of this moment our first goal is to release "The Promise" and perhaps two other songs on April 17th. Afterward, at a date yet to be determined, we will release the full length album; "The Lineage of Queens"!

ROC REMASTERED

HOT OFF THE PRESS!!! ROC HAS BEEN REMASTERED!!!

Hot beats and Tibetan, mantra-filled tracks available for your listening pleasure!

Good news everyone! Jetsunma's album, Revolution of Compassion, just underwent it's second round of duplication! One thousand ROCs have been either sold, given to podcasts, radio staions, labels or publishing companies that are helping to get her music out into the world! Jetsunma requested that we remaster ROC to get a punchier and spicier sound. The musical arrangements have not changed, just the sound quality. The talented engineer we have been working with in New York, who did the final mix of Ellinwood Ranch Blues, just completed the remastering of ROC!

CD Baby just sent the newly remastered album to all of our distribution sites, including itunes, so it will be available very soon!

Next Big Thing and FRANCE!!!

Although there are not many posts here on the blog I want to assure you that BBV is working. In fact we are working very hard. And we've had some pretty encouraging results. Thanks to our music publisher Ariel we have been featured on the Next Big Thing Podcast. You can down load the podcast from the link and check out all of the amazing music. Jetsunma's "Father" and "Shabten Soldeb" are the second and third songs played, with a little greeting from Jetsunma between them.

And "Little Porch Light" from Ellinwood Ranch Blues was played on a radio program in France, my beloved France, we are so excited. Once I find out more information on this I will provide links and what not.

Release Party on April 1st

As "Ellinwood Ranch Blues" is set to debut on April 1st, Blinded By View has decided to throw a party to celebrate the release. We are hosting this function at the Main St. Cafe in downtown Kentlands.
The Cafe serves a variety of exquisite foods and espresso drinks with a wonderful ambiance, including outdoor seating, which by the looks of it, we are going to need. John Bardi, our amazing guitarist, will be playing guitar through out the party and Jetsunma will perform one of the songs from the album, sans drums. So if you looking for something thing to do on April Fool's day please come out and celebrate with us!

Speaking of Ellinwood Ranch Blues...

Did I mention that we have a new album coming out April 1st? Well here, my friends, is the cover, a little taste of the gorgeous artwork Jane Middleton designed for ERB. But you got to get the real thing to see the booklet inside.

Jams Run Free

Music can be such a stress reliever, even more so when one is performing, jamming or composing. Last night Jetsunma invited BBV and our new Guitarist John Bardi over to her house for a jam session as a means to relax and decompress after this latest period of activity, bringing Ellinwood Ranch Blues to life, moving, and tending to matters beyond the scope of this blog. Since November we've been working tirelessly on this album. Although its been a pleasure doing so, it certainly has been a lot of hard work for everyone involved, so we were in need of a little jam to release some pressure. Last night we chilled out, laid back, and tinkered with some new ideas. John Bardi, who we've been working with since January, is a very talented guitarist, he is creative and excels at leading a jam. And last night he once again brought out some very interesting material and lead us through some great improvisations. These jams with John Bardi have been redefining, once again, the sound of Blinded By View. And because of this we are planning to return to Dakini Valley, AKA Ellingwood Ranch, in Arizona, to focus all of our attention on music in that isolated setting. A musical retreat, if you will, where we do nothing but create, record and jam. Last time we produced 12 songs in 15 days, who knows what could happen this time, especially after an amazing session like last night. We had some real gems come out of this jam, some real nice potential material is starting to bud, something marvelous could come out of another musical retreat.

All of the songs have been mixed and sound fantastic. The artwork is done and looks gorgeous. And Jetsunma is excited. The Album will be released on April 1st. You'll be able to buy it on iTunes, Amazon.com and CDBaby.

Harbinger #1!!!

www.ourstage.com

I just learned that while we were in Arizona, Harbinger raked #1 in the Metal competition on Ourstage.com, winner in that genre. And they ranked very high, #6, in the over all competition between all genres, winning some sort of awards. They are #8 right now in Metal for January and are poised to win once again. BBV had the pleasure of producing the music that is doing so well on Ourstage.com. We talked the otherday about recording yet another song of their, they say they have something special in the works.
